New
State of the Art Radiology Equipment
to
Improve Speed and Accuracy
of
Patient Diagnoses
at
Madelia Community Hospital
The
Madelia Community Hospital Radiology Department is in the process of
installing new state-of-the-art radiology equipment to improve the
speed and accuracy of patient diagnoses. The new equipment includes
a Siemens
“Emotion 16-Slice” CT Scanner System in addition to a new
Radiology X-Ray room. This
past spring the old CT scanner was replaced with a New Siemens
“Emotion 16 Slice” CT scanner. As of June 2, radiology staff
completed their training, although we had been performing CT’s
with our new instrument since the first week in May.
The
new 16-slice scanner replaces an out-dated one-slice scanner. In
just a few months, MCH physicians and staff have realized a host a
benefits. The Sensation
16 CT Scanner enables MCH to offer patients a better routine CT
scan. Patients receive
a lower dosage of radiation along with a shorter exam time,
resulting in higher resolution; better quality scans for physicians
to review.
MCH
Lab Director, Sheila Bertilson notes, “The new CT is very accurate
and takes less time that a traditional CT, for physicians it means a
precise diagnosis in a few minutes without time consuming image
manipulation and processing time.”
The
Radiology Department also updated and received training in a AGFA
Computed Radiography System earlier this spring.
The updates will feature a new Moveable X-Ray Table to allow
for easier transfer of patients. The table will be able to descend
to a level of 18” – allowing transfer of wheelchair patients
with ease. The new X-Ray Table will also allow more flexibility when
taking x-ray images from numerous angles.
MCH is anticipating an August 9th as the unveiling
of the new X-Ray Room.
With
all this in place, MCH will be able to digitally send CT, MRI and
X-ray images to the Radiologist reading service who will read the
images and fax back reports within 24-48 hours instead of 1-3 days--STATs
and ASAPs can have results within 1 hour or less! “We want to provide the best state-of-the-art equipment for
our physicians and patients, once we lose patients to the larger
facilities, it is very difficult or impossible to get them back”,
remarked MCH Administrator Candace Fenske.
Fenske noted the chief reason for the update is to continue
to provide the best quality care for our patients, in addition to
providing sophisticated diagnostic equipment for the physicians.
The modernization is paramount for MCH, making them a
state-of-the-art hospital for their size.
The Madelia Community Hospital is proud to be a locally owned
independent healthcare facility committed to improving its services
for our community.
