Direct Access Lab Testing

One of the most basic aspects of health care reform is encouraging and enabling consumers to take more responsibility for their own wellness and disease prevention.

Direct Access Testing allows individuals who want more control of their own health care the capability to have laboratory tests performed without a physician order.

Direct Access Testing is ideal for those patients who do not have healthcare insurance, or have high insurance deductibles and co-pays.

DALT Process

  • A physician’s order is not required.

  • No appointment is necessary.

  • Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • Your insurance will not be billed.  All tests must be paid for by cash, check or credit card at the time of the test.

  • Results will be given directly to the patient, or will be mailed to the patient.  The patient is responsible for providing their physician with the results.

  • DALT testing may be requested at the Hospital Reception Area.

Test Information

Complete Blood Count (Hemogram): The CBC is an automated count of the cells in the blood.  The results can provide information about the number of cell types, the size, shape, and physical characteristics of the cells.  The CBC is used as a broad screening test to check for disorders like anemia, infection, and many other diseases.

Hemoglobin (Hgb):

The hemoglobin measures the amount of oxygen-carrying protein in the blood.  This may be used to check for anemia, fluid loss, and dehydration, among other diseases.

Sedimentation Rate (ESR): The Sed Rate measures the degree of inflammation in the body.  It is used to help detect conditions associated with acute and chronic inflammation.

Protime/INR (PT): The protime measures how long it takes for a clot to form in a sample of blood.  This is used to help detect clotting and bleeding disorders.

Blood Type (ABO and Rh): Blood typing is used to determine your blood group and what type of blood or blood components you can safely receive.

Urinalysis (UA): A urinalysis is a group of tests that detect the byproducts of metabolism, cells, and bacteria.  It is used as a screening for different metabolic and kidney disorders.

Pregnancy Screen Test: This test is used to determine if a female is pregnant.  It may be performed on blood or urine.

Complete Metabolic Panel (CMP): The CMP is performed to identify the status of a patient’s kidneys, liver, blood sugar, electrolyte and acid-base balance.

Potassium (K): Potassium works to regulate the amount of fluid in the body, stimulate muscle contraction, and maintain acid-base balance.

AST (SGOT): This enzyme is used in the heart, liver, kidneys, and muscles.  It is used with the ALT to detect liver damage.

ALT (SGPT): This enzyme is found in the liver and kidney.  It is used with the AST to detect liver injury.

LIPID Profile (Fasting): This test includes cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, and LDL.  This is used to determine your risk of heart disease.

Glucose (Fasting): Glucose is a simple sugar in the blood used to detect diabetes.

Glycosylated Hemoglobin (A1C): The A1C evaluates the average amount of glucose in the blood over the last 2 to 3 months.  It is used to measure compliance in diabetics.

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA): This protein is produced by the prostate gland in males.  This test is used as a screen for prostate cancer and to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for those diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH): The TSH test is used to control the rate at which the body uses energy.

Infuenza A & B: This test will test for the 2 most common flu viruses.
Strep Test: This test is utilized with patients who have a sore throat.  It will detect Group A Strep, also known as Strep Throat.

Other Tests: Other testing available per the patient’s request.
