Types of Ultrasounds Provided:
How do I prepare for my exam?
You will be given prep instructions prior to your scheduled exam.

For abdomen ultrasounds or Renal Artery Stenosis ultrasound, you must not eat or drink for 12 hours prior to scan. You can take needed medications with a sip of water.

For pelvic ultrasound, you must have a full bladder. Finish drinking 32 ounces of water one-hour prior to test. You may eat as usual.

For obstetric (OB) ultrasounds less than 14 weeks you must have full bladder. Finish drinking 32 ounces of water one-hour prior to test. You may eat as usual.

For obstetric (OB) ultrasounds greater than 14 weeks no prep is needed.

For all other ultrasounds no prep is needed.
Call Radiology department at (507) 642-5221 if you have any questions about your prep or ultrasound.
Please note: Arriving late or not following the preparation instructions may result in rescheduling your exam. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled exam time.
What will happen during the exam?
You will be asked to lie on a bed. A warm gel will be placed on the area the ultrasound is needed. A small handheld transducer will be placed on your body and moved around during the exam. The Ultrasound Technologist will take several images. The Radiologist will review your images and your provider will receive the results of the test. Please allow one hour for the exam.
After your exam:
You may resume your regular diet unless you have been given other instructions. Your physician/health care provider will share the results of your exam with you at your follow-up appointment. If you do not have a follow-up appointment and have not received the results in 5-7 days, please call your physician/health care provider.
