Madelia
Community Hospital Renovation
Focuses
on Patient Comfort
&
Communities Growing Needs
No
one “wants” to spend time in the hospital, but if you have to,
the new patient rooms soon to be created at Madelia Community
Hospital will provide an “oasis-type” atmosphere.
The basic premise: people feel better, relax more deeply and
heal more quickly when they spend time in tranquil, soothing
surroundings. But the
patient isn't the only one to benefit from this revolutionary
design. There is also an emphasis on efficiency and ease of cleaning
making life easier for visiting family members, physicians, nurses
and other hospital staff.
“Primary
considerations for the renovation are to provide patients a private
room that focuses on healing while promoting staff efficiency,”
stated Administrator Candace Fenske.
Efficiency, patient
privacy and wellness plus cost effectiveness are key factors being
addressed through the $7 million renovation project, according to
Fenske. The project will include a 12,600 sq. foot addition with
private patient rooms including private baths and a 4,818 sq. ft.
remodel/update of the present hospital facility.
Architect for the project is Paulsen Architects of Mankato
and the contractor will be R. W. Carlstrom.
“We are very impressed with the design Paulsen has created
for us,” commented Fenske, “it superbly blends our desire for a
patient-focused therapeutic and safe environment with the technical
and administrative requirements we encounter as a medical
facility.”
The MCH Board of
Directors together with staff toured numerous healthcare facilities
to assist them in creating a design for Madelia.
They are very excited to unveil the “Wellness
Environment” patient room design, which are designed with both
the healthcare professional and patient in mind.
The design is based upon research, which illustrates factors
such as soft lights and exposure to outdoors scenery are significant
in improving a patients healing and recovery.
But the patient isn't the only one to benefit from this
revolutionary design. “Wellness
Environments” places a strong emphasis on efficiency and ease
of cleaning, making life easier for visiting family members,
physicians, nurses and other hospital staff. All materials are
carefully chosen for durability and ease of cleaning to minimize the
risk of infection. The
renovation will also address space and technology issues in addition
to addressing patient privacy and security needs.
In the past ten years
MCH has seen remarkable growth, for example: Physical Therapy visits
are up by 154%, minor surgeries are up by 133% and number of films
taken is up by 108%. “The
needs of our community are growing and as their healthcare facility
we have spent a great deal of time researching and creating the best
solution for our patients, staff and community.
We are confident and the research bears that providing a
better health care environment speeds up the patient’s recovery.
Thus we believe this project offers both our patients and
staff the best healthcare environment possible,” states Board
President Steve Cooling. The hospital will be partnering with the
Madelia Community Hospital Foundation to assist them in funding the
project; further details will follow on their plans.
